PARENTS’ FEELINGS OF SELF-HARM ADOLESCENT: A SCOPING REVIEW

Parents face challenges in supporting their children who self-harm, experiencing increased negative emotions, lack of social and vocational support, and subsequent increased parenting burdens and stress. The purpose of this study is to summarize and conclude a certain range of research on parental experiences, add some generalized recommendations and evidence to the family and parental perspectives of self-harm research, and inform the future work of educational providers and social workers in self-harm services for adolescents. The databases, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL and adolescent decision-making studies were explored, and after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria, 8 papers were included in this review. Thematic analysis indicated that the parents of self-harm adolescents presented like shock, anxiety, unconsciousness and transformation, importance of and obstacles to communication interventions and family therapy as a development trend in the prevention of self-harm behaviors.
