This study aims to investigate the influence of parental characteristics on students’ academic achievement and practical skills in Biology in senior secondary schools in Abuja Metropolis. The findings of the study revealed that: students in Abuja Municipal Area Council had high practical skills in biology with the highest being in observation and lowest in modeling of specimens. Fathers’ and mothers’ level of education and income, contributed to students’ achievement and practical skills in biology in varying proportions. Parental characteristics had significant composite contributions to students’ achievement and practical skills in biology. Based on these findings, the study recommended among others that teachers use materials available to carry out biology practical lessons to improve the students’ skills in areas they showed lower practical skills. School should organize extramural classes for students with lower achievement in biology and practical skills to ensure they achieve year level expectations. Educational policy makers and school management team should ensure that schools are provided with well-equipped libraries to provide opportunities for students from low income and uneducated families to have access to educational materials to further enhance their achievement in biology.
